My Family Tree Genealogy Book

Tracing your family history can be a rewarding journey, but turning that research into a tangible keepsake brings your heritage to life. I recently created a genealogy book that showcases my family tree. This is the sort of work I've begun doing more consistently for my clients.

Gather Family History

• Interview older relatives to capture stories and facts

• Organize documents chronologically or by family branch

The family lore I collected about my relatives became the basis for my first stand up set I performed at a recent open mic night. One must try to do at least one terrifying thing per week, right?

The Format

Decide whether you want a printed book, a digital version, or both. Printed books offer a tactile experience and can be passed down through generations. Digital books are easier to update and share with distant family members. Just ensure that the printed book is on acid-free paper.

I chose a printed book with a hardcover to give it a timeless feel. Two copies so they can go to my two children in the future.

Adding Personal Stories and Photographs

What makes a genealogy book truly special are the stories behind the names. Include anecdotes, letters, or historical context that bring your ancestors to life.

Ideas for enriching your book:

• Share stories about family traditions or significant events

• Include scanned copies of old letters or documents

• Add captions to photos explaining who is pictured and when
